Preposition of Place: Si Penunjuk Tempat yang Bikin Kalimat Hidup!

 

Kalau kamu ingin bilang “di atas meja”, “di belakang rumah”, atau “di antara teman-teman” dalam bahasa Inggris, kamu butuh preposition of place!
Kata-kata kecil ini penting banget, karena tanpa mereka, orang bisa bingung kamu lagi di mana😆

1. IN – Di Dalam

Gunakan in kalau sesuatu berada di dalam ruang tertutup, area, atau batas tertentu.

🧩 Contoh

• The cat is in the box. 🐈📦

• There’s milk in the fridge. 🥛

• She lives in Jakarta. 🏙️

💡 Ingat: kalau bisa masuk ke dalamnya, pakai in!

2. ON – Di Atas (Menempel di Permukaan)

Gunakan on kalau sesuatu berada di atas permukaan dan biasanya menyentuhnya.

• The book is on the table. 📚

• There’s a poster on the wall. 🖼️

• The cat is sleeping on the sofa. 🐱

💡 Trik: kalau bisa “nempel” atau “diletakkan di atas sesuatu”, pakai on.

3. ABOVE – Di Atas (Tapi Tidak Menyentuh)

Gunakan above kalau sesuatu berada lebih tinggi dari benda lain, tanpa menyentuhnya.

🧩 Contoh:

• The picture is above the bed. 🛏️

• The sun is above the clouds. ☀️☁️

• There’s a shelf above the TV. 📺

💡 Bedanya dengan on:

On = menempel di atas.
Above = melayang atau berada lebih tinggi dari sesuatu.

 

4. UNDER – Di Bawah (Menempel atau Tidak)

Gunakan under kalau sesuatu berada di bawah benda lain — bisa menyentuh atau tidak.

🧩 Contoh:

• The shoes are under the bed. 👟

• The dog is hiding under the table. 🐕

• The pen rolled under the chair. 🪑

💡 Ingat: lawannya on atau above.

5. NEXT TO – Di Sebelah

Gunakan next to untuk menunjukkan sesuatu yang berada di samping atau berdekatan dengan benda lain.

🧩 Contoh:

• The bank is next to the post office. 🏦📮

• She sat next to her best friend. 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️

• There’s a lamp next to the bed. 💡

💡 Mirip dengan: beside (sama artinya, hanya beda gaya penggunaan — next to terdengar lebih umum).

6. BEHIND – Di Belakang

Gunakan behind kalau sesuatu berada di belakang benda lain — tidak terlihat dari depan.

• The car is behind the house. 🚗🏠

• The dog is hiding behind the curtain. 🐶

• There’s a garden behind the school. 🌳

💡 Lawan katanya: in front of.

7. AMONG – Di Antara (Lebih dari Dua)

Gunakan among kalau sesuatu berada di antara banyak benda atau orang.

🧩 Contoh:

• The rabbit is among the flowers. 🐇🌼

• She felt happy among her friends. 🥰

• The cabin is hidden among the trees. 🌲

💡 Among = dikelilingi banyak hal.
Bayangkan kamu ada di tengah-tengah kerumunan teman-temanmu!

8. BETWEEN – Di Antara (Dua Benda)

Gunakan between kalau sesuatu berada di tengah dua benda atau orang.

• The ball is between the shoes. ⚽👟👟

• Our house is between the park and the river. 🏡🌳💧

• She’s sitting between Tom and Anna. 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️

💡 Between = dua benda, among = lebih dari dua.

9. IN FRONT OF – Di Depan

Gunakan in front of untuk menunjukkan sesuatu berada di depan benda lain (berlawanan arah dari behind).

• The car is parked in front of the house. 🚗🏠

• There’s a big tree in front of the school. 🌳🏫

• She’s standing in front of the mirror. 💁‍♀️🪞

10. INSIDE – Di Dalam (Lebih Spesifik dari In)

Gunakan inside untuk menunjukkan benar-benar di dalam sesuatu, seperti berada dalam wadah atau ruangan tertutup.

• The toy is inside the box. 🎁

• The clothes are inside the closet. 👕

• Please wait inside the room. 🚪

💡 Inside lebih menekankan posisi fisik di dalam sesuatu, lebih jelas dibanding in.

11. OUTSIDE – Di Luar

Kebalikan dari inside!
Gunakan outside untuk menunjukkan sesuatu berada di luar batas atau ruangan.

• Don’t leave your bag outside the room. 🎒

12. ACROSS FROM – Berseberangan / Di Sebrang

Gunakan across from untuk menunjukkan sesuatu berada tepat di seberang benda atau tempat lain, biasanya dipisahkan oleh jalan atau ruang terbuka.

• The café is across from the library. ☕📚

• My house is across from the park. 🏡🌳

• The pharmacy is across from the hospital. 💊🏥

💡 Bisa juga diganti dengan opposite, artinya sama!
